Canadian CSTC member Tim Hurson on his new book, Think Better.

Canadian Member, Tim Hurson's summarises the constant
struggle and yet excitement of the creatives at that mysterious thing
they call ..the end product.....In this case, Tim's new book, Think
    Better

"This evening I received a UPS box from McGraw Hill with the first
    ten copies of Think Better.

It looks terrific beyond my expectations. After months of looking
at proofs, pre-proofs, and ratty galleys, you get kind of inured to
idea that that's what the final thing is going to look like. The
galleys are cheaply printed with low low res images, on lousy paper,
full of errors. But wow, in it's finished form it really looks
great! (Not that I didn't pick up a typo within the first 30 seconds!
It's amazing, the thing is inspected and reinspected by I-don't-know-
how-many pairs of eyes, I-don't-know-how-many times, and yet, there
it is, big as life, "teacts" instead of reacts. And in a callout no
less! Oh well. If ever it gets to a second printing, it'll get
corrected. Hey, then the first edition will become a collector's item!

My reaction reminded me of when I used to work in the film business:
In the editing and mixing stages of productions, you work with crappy
third- and fourth-generation materials, grainy, not properly color
balanced, with occasional slugs (blank spots where other stuff
eventually gets inserted). Then one day the final screening print
arrives. Regardless of the actual merit of the film, it's always a
great experience. You get so used to the thing looking ratty, and
then when you see it in its pristine form, you think, "Wow, this
really looks fantastic! Now to sell the bugger!!"
