Stephen J. Joyce
Stephen’s professional background stretches across several industries and continents. A specialist in Applied Psychology, neurolinguistics and group dynamics, Stephen started his career working in program management within social services. Certifying as a Stress Management Consultant he founded Northern Ireland Stress Management Consulting and worked primarily with the Security Forces throughout Northern Ireland. Through this company, he developed corporate employee assistance programs that were implemented within many companies in Ireland and the UK.
In 1990, Stephen joined the largest privately-owned pharmaceutical company in the UK. He moved from sales and marketing into brand management 1993. Over the space of two years overall product turnover within his division grew 350%. As part of the product branding process Stephen spear-headed direct marketing methods that produced over one million direct-mail items, many winning industry awards for creativity. Stephen managed product turnover in excess of $80 million. Around that time Stephen found himself on the ‘road to Damascus’ and realized he had to reinvent his life entirely (he kept his wife and kids but that was it).
Moving to Canada in 2001, Stephen launched his own company Zenergy PD Inc. providing consulting services in the areas of communication skills, group dynamics and building ‘resilient teams’. Resiliency impacts every organization’s capacity for sustainable leadership and staff retention. He has developed and delivered programs for the University of Calgary, Mount Royal and SAIT. More recently, he has worked closely with the Project Management Institute and the Canadian Public Relations Professionals. He has delivered keynotes and speeches to the Canadian Institute of Marketing, Canadian Human Resource Professionals (CHRP), Project Management Institute (PMI), and the Canadian Institute of Mortgage Brokers and Lenders (CIMBL) to name just a few. Stephen has also been active with the ‘Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) the largest community development organization in Canada, and has facilitated café conversations with groups as large as 650 at national conferences.
His work and research in the last five years have been informed by (among others):
Peter Block; Meg Wheatley; David Issacs; Juanita Brown; George Por; Raymond Kurzweil; Fritjof Capra; Harold Bloom; Ernest Laszlo; Paul Watzlewick; Robert Dilts and lots of etymologists.
He is currently the ‘Resiliency Content Expert’ (their choice of title not mine) for the Calgary Health Region Leadership Program. Stephen is also a serving board member of the Canadian Society for Training and Development. Stephen is also completing his first book ‘Teaching an Anthill to Fetch: Developing Collaborative Intelligence (CQ) of Teams’ due to be published in late Nov. 2006.
